Since its inception in 1971, Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd's congregation has been blessed with an outstanding tradition of music and leadership. Our music leadership has reached out and incorporated many styles of instrumentation that have enhanced and energized the worship service. Good Shepherd's Cantor, The Reverend Marilyn E. Witte, continues the excellence of music leadership by sustaining the congregation with her own gifts of music, as well as leading the choirs of the congregation.
Pastor Marilyn Witte marked her seventh anniversary as Cantor at Good Shepherd in September of 2008. She became eligible for a sabbatical which she enjoyed May 23 through August 23, 2009.
Leaving for Europe, she spent 2 weeks in France participating in the Summer Institute for French Organ Studies. From there Pastor Witte traveled to Leipzig Germany for the Bach Festival in mid-June.
When she returned to the states, she studied Sacred Harp music in the smokies of North Carolina. While studying hammered dulcimer, she performed with other hammered dulcimer players as well as mountain dulcimers, guitars, autoharps, and other appalachian instruments.
Our new 27-rank pipe organ is the centerpiece of our music program. It was crafted and installed in 2006 by Dobson Pipe Organ Builders, the same builders as Philadelphia's Kimmel Center organ.
It's unique design alone qualifies it as a work of art. Just wait until you hear it!
Good Shepherd's Fine Arts Series has been filling the hearts and stirring the imagination of both young and old for nearly a decade. These free-to-the-public programs celebrate both sacred and secular music through the festive flavor of local children's choirs to the often powerful and always moving classical chamber music and organ recitals.
Under the direction and coordination of Good Shepherd's Cantor, the Reverend Marilyn Witte, various music programs are carefully researched and brought to Good Shepherd every year for the cultural enjoyment and spiritual enrichment of the community.
The 2009-2010 season will be as entertaining and culturally enriching as in years past. View this year's schedule. To download this year's brochure click here.

No group is left out from participating in the music ministry of the congregation. The Celebrate! children's musical ensemble is a wonderful example. Each week they study music, either vocal or instrumental, that they will share in worship. They also participate in a craft project, such as creating banners or other art work that is then displayed. It is a joy to see a child (or an adult for that matter) who before thought they had little to offer in the way of music, blossom into an experienced bell ringer, drummer, or vocalist.
